My Friends "The Lindens"

Publicly, the Lindens would like you to think they care about the residents of second life and that they attempt to stay on top of sl problems and the concerns of the residents. I disagree. Remember the open letter that was passed around and submitted not too long ago. Philip and the rest addressed the issues, but was anything really acted upon? Did they really take the message to heart? Or did they simply put up a little window dressing and continue about their merry way.
I've stated here before that I don't think the Lindens care about improving what is already here and making second life a wonderful place to be. I really feel they are more concerned with escalating the value of second life in order to make it saleable and thus more attractive to potential investors and in the meantime turning a decent profit for Linden Lab. While that's okay to increase the value, i feel they do it to the detriment of sl's current residents.

Take for example, the notification of rolling restarts. Generally we are given a couple days notice that a rolling restart will occur. This can be disastrous for business owners who have scheduled events for that time period. Club owners have booked live acts, dj's, staff and advertised their events, usually weeks in advance, only to find out that it will be disrupted by a rolling restart. It's happened to me twice in the last month. Another restart tonight (or tomorrow they say) will affect my Mardi Gras night. Three live acts were booked weeks ago and notices and classifieds were placed well in advance. Wouldn't it be nice if they used the outage schedule (they did make one but seldom use it) to schedule restarts, upgrads and downtime. And why can't they do rolling restarts on a regular basis. They could schedule a rolling restart once a week, on the same day, and during the same times so that business owners would be able to avoid those times to schedule their events. And if a rolling restart is not needed, it could then be cancelled with no harm to anyone. But then again, that just makes sense.

Another area of concern for me, and I have commented on it before is the event postings. I can't count the number of times, I've laid out my text for an event notice, entered it and are then told that the text doesn't conform to the guidelines. No details on what doesn't conform. So you spend the next hour editing the text, changing punctuation, omitting spaces and generally screwing around with what you wanted to say. If you're lucky, a few changes and it gets accepted, if not you might have to post something completely different than what you wanted to say. Wouldn't it be nice if they told you what was not acceptable. BTW, i've read the guidelines and everything I have in my event notice conforms to it. So i just don't get it.

Does anyone really use voice? I don't know cause I don't. This was one of the big new features that the Lindens added to sl and is it really making a difference? I don't seem to notice anyone using voice, or at least everywhere I go, chat seems to be prevelant. I won't go into my reasons for not wanting voice in sl, I've done that before, but I think this is another example of the Lindens adding a feature that they thought would improve sl's value. Personally I think it's a bust.

Windlight? Again, i keep seeing the posts on the updates to it, but i've never experienced it and have never come across someone in sl who has or even talks about it. Another bust?

Maybe it is just me, but I don't see any improvement to sl with these new features. In fact they seem to make our experiences here suffer a bit. And with the time they spend on maintenance for those features, it must take away from maintenance on the existing features of sl.

Trying to make sl bigger and better by adding new features, banning gambling and banks point to the Lindens being more concerned with the resale value of sl and not the enjoyment of second life residents.

Reread the open letter, Phillip, and maybe we can stop griping about Linden Lab.

Don't forget, barring the rolling restart, tonight is Mardi Gras night at Gia's Fashion Cabaret & Event Center with three live acts, Kelvinblue Oh, Zed Essex and BubbaC John. Free beads, masks, favors and King cake. The fun starts at 6PM and runs thru to 9PM. Dont' miss out.

Lots of other things planned in the Lavender Corp Family. Trella has the Hawaiin Sweethearts Ball with BubbaC John on Feb 13, just in time for valentines day. I'm working on a new line of clothing for summer and hope to have the "Summertime Blues" fashion show in the spring. Jeb is back in sl and helping out with notices and invites while Katime is off. Katime will be offering another Treasure Hunt for easter. And, we'll be trying to open Gia's more often during the week.
Trella hired another dancer for Gia's, welcome Mutley. We are always looking for managers, hosts, dancers, sales associates and dj's, so drop us a line if you are interested.

Okay, I got enough off my chest for this week.

Hope to see you at Gia's tonight for Mardi Gras.

Ciao

Jenny
