Janine .. (1978-2008)

"If tears could build a stairway
and thoughts a memory lane

I'd walk right up to heaven
and bring you home again
No Farewell words were spoken
No time to say good-bye
You were gone before I knew it
And only God knows why."

This past week I said goodbye to my sister Janine.
Janine was a warm loving caring woman who never hesitated to help me, console me or offer me advice. Though she was often in pain, she made me a priority. We were sisters but more importantly we were also friends. Throughout our childhood we spent our time together helping our parents with the running of a resort. We helped out a lot and as such did not have a lot of time for other friends.

When I left home for college, she gave me emotional support and through the lonely and homesick periods, her phone calls were my strength. During our parents break-up, she would console me and offer me explanations and reasoning. During my indecisiveness on moving for my career, my relationship issues, and in general, my entire life, she was the voice of reason and comfort.

Her life was not perfect, she had her share of pitfalls, but she always had a positive outlook and never complained. No matter what she encountered in life, she always saw the bright side and accepted things as they were. She cared about family and was proud of their accomplishments. She made a great choice in a husband and brought a wonderful son to this world.

She has left a part of herself in her son. I see that in him. She also has left a part in me. I remember that. She has touched so many lives and made many of our lives pleasurable. I looked up to Janine, and still do. I strive to be like her in so many ways. She was my mentor, my confidant, my friend, my sister.

I love you Janine.

Always

Jenny
